Liberty Health started with a stack of renewal letters. When the enhanced marketplace subsidies expired at the end of 2025, millions of households — the self-employed, small business owners, early retirees, anyone without employer coverage — opened envelopes showing premiums that had roughly doubled. Good, healthy, hard-working families suddenly paying more for insurance than for their homes.

We knew something most of them didn't: for healthy families paying full sticker price, the marketplace isn't the only road. Private, medically underwritten PPO plans — real major-medical coverage from established, state-regulated carriers — often cost dramatically less, with bigger networks. The catch is real too: they involve health questions and not everyone is approved. That tradeoff deserves honest math, not a sales script.
